Akshaya Baskaran is a Clinical Psychologist with M.Phil. in Clinical Psychology from the National Institute for Empowerment of Persons with Multiple Disabilities (NIEPMD), Chennai, and is UGC-NET (JRF) qualified. Deeply inquisitive about human nature and the complexity of the mind, she brings both academic rigour and genuine curiosity to her clinical work — approaching each individual with openness, reflection, and a commitment to understanding their experience in its full depth.
Her clinical training spans across a range of settings in Chennai and Bangalore during her Masters and Bachelors— where she has worked with children and adults across diagnostic presentations. Her experience encompasses psychological assessments, case formulation, case history taking, therapeutic work, behaviour modification, psychoeducation, and report writing. She has also worked with mothers of children with multiple disabilities, and has provided pro-bono counselling for young adults as a Trainee Counsellor.
Akshaya’s clinical orientation is eclectic and evidence-informed and thinking influenced by psychodynamic, analytical psychology and third wave therapies. She holds a deep interest in personality development, abnormal psychology, and trauma-informed practice, and approaches her work with an attentiveness to the quieter, more layered aspects of experience that continue to shape how individuals feel, relate, and move through the world and the systems.
Rooted in a commitment to continuous learning and compassionate care, Akshaya brings to her practice not only clinical skill but also a genuine warmth and an abiding belief in the capacity of individuals to engage meaningfully with their own experiences. She continues to expand her understanding of trauma-informed approaches, driven by a vision of practice that is both scientifically grounded and deeply human.
